libarchive-dev software package provides Multi-format archive and compression library (development files), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libarchive-dev
libarchive-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libarchive-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libarchive-dev *
You will get with libarchive-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
